General Information about Burkina Faso
Burkina Faso is a landlocked country in West Africa and is surrounded by six countries. It has Mali on its Northern border, Niger on the Eastern border, Benin in the South East, Togo and Ghana on the Southern border and the Cote d'Ivore on the South Western border. Its capital is Ouagadougou and its population is 13.2 million people.
Burkina Faso is quite a flat country with few exceptions in the southwest, and the country has a tropical climate with a rainy season that lasts up to four months. Temperatures are generally warm but the north does experience some low temperatures.
The capital city of Ouagadougou has a number of museums housing many artifacts of the country's past. The Grand Marche in Bobo Dioulasso is a very busy marketplace with lots of momentos of Burkina Faso life and culture and for those who enjoy the outdoors the grand Karfiguela Wateralls are worth a visit.

Burkina Faso has a typical tropical climate with four seasons but is generally hot, sunny and dry all year round. November through to March are the best months to visit which are warm and hot although it can be windy. June through to October are the wet months but the weather remains warm. The hottest months to visit are from March until May with temperatures going as high as 40 degrees.

Located in the middle of West Africa's 'hump' Burkina Faso has a total landmass of 274,200 square metres with only 400 square metres of water. Originally known as the Republic of Upper Volta the country was renamed back in 1984 to Burkina Faso and is also known as Burkina. There are three main rivers in Burkina which are the Mouhourn, the Nazinou and the Nakambe. The highest peak in Burkina is Tena Kourou which is over 749 metres high while the lowest point is Mouhoun River at 200 metres.

The agricultural industry provides over 39 percent of the economy with cotton being its main crop and is also Burkina's main export produce. The agricultural industry also employs over 90 percent of the population in Burkina. The service industry is the largest support to the economy with the industry sector being the least popular. Burkina Faso mainly exports to China, Singapore, Ghana and Bangladesh. The official currency of Burkina is the Communaute Financiere Africaine Franc.
