LivingstoneGeneral Information about LivingstoneLivingstone is the capital of the Southern Province of Zambia and is the tourism centre of Mosi-oa-Tunya (better known as Victoria Falls). Livingstone is located just north of the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe, about 375 kilometres south west of Zambia's capital city Lusaka. The city centre lies about 5 kilometres north of the Zambezi River and is home to almost 100,000 people.
With it's primary position just north of Zimbabwe and the Zambezi River, Livingstone has many interesting sites to see and places to visit such as Mosi-oa-Tunya (Victoria Falls), Mosi-ao-Tunya National Park, the Victoria Falls Field Museum, Livingstone Museum, Livingstone Game Park and Saint Andrew's Church.
Locally known as Mosi-ao-Tunya (meaning the Smoke that Thunders) is Livingstone's most famous attraction, Victoria Falls. This waterfall is situated on the Zambezi River on the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe and is the largest waterfall in the world, measuring 1.7 kilometres wide and and 108 metres high. The areas surrounding Mosi-ao-Tunya are home to many native African animals such as elephant, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, monkey, hippo and crocodile. The river below the falls is home to about 40 different species of fish. Occasionally lions and leopards are seen roaming around Mosi-ao-Tunya.
