One of the most popular temples to visit in Taipei is the Longshan Temple (Dragon Mountain Temple) which was built in 1738 and dedicated to the godess of Mercy, Guanyin. The world's tallest building is also found in Taipei. The Taipei International Financial Centre 101 is 101 storeys high and stands at 508m tall. This is a very popular shopping centre to visit. Taiwan has a total land area of 35,980 square kilometres which includes 3,720 square kilometres of water. The coastline of Taiwan extends for over 1,566 kilometres and includes the islands of Pescadores, Matsu, Quemoy. Taiwan is shaped similar to a sweet potato and the local Taiwanese people commonly call themselves 'Children of the Sweet Potatoe'. The highest peak in Taiwan is Yu Shan which is also known as Jade Mountain and rises to over 3,982 metres. Jade Mountain can be located in the Yushan National Park which was first discovered in 1857 by W. Morrison. It was then that Yu Shan was nameed Mount Morrison but was changed in 1900 to Niitakayama or Mount Niitaka which means 'New High Mountain'.Yu Shan is a popular mountain to climb in Taiwan as well as several other mountains located in Yushan National Park. EconomyLearn About The Economy In TaiwanTaiwan has a very strong economy and is the 5th largest economy in Asia and is over 70 percent free since 2007. Taiwan's economy is largely based on its service industry, manufacturing and high technology. Taiwan exports large quanties of computer procucts and electical equipment, metals, textiles, plastics and rubber products as well as chemicals. The agricultural industry in Taiwan only offers over 1 percent of the economy while just employing over 5 percent of the population. Whereas the service industry provides over 70 percent with the industry sector following on 26 percent. Taiwan had an unemployment rate of 3.9 percent in 2006 with only 0.9 percent of the population living below the poverty line. The official currency of Taiwan is the New Taiwan Dollar.
