Saudi Arabia is the largest country on the Arabian Peninsula and is located in the Middle East. Saudi Arabia is bordered by Jordan, Iraq and Kuwait on the north, the Persian Gulf on the northeast, Qatar and the United Arab Emerates on the east, Oman on the southeast, Yemen on the south and the Red Sea on the west.

Saudi Arabia has a population of over 27 million people. All citizens of Saudi Arabia must be Muslim and the language spoken is Arabic. Saudi Arabia is referred to as "The Land of The Two Holy Mosques" and is home to the two holiest places in Islam, Mecca and Medina, which all able-bodied Muslims are required to make a pilgrimage to at least once during their lifetime. Non-Muslims are not allowed to enter either of these cities. Saudi Arabia's capital and largest city is Riyadh, situated to the east of the centre of the country, which is home to over 4.7 million people.

Madain Saleh in Saudi Arabia is the second city of the Nabataeans who are responsible for the city of Petra in Jordan. Madain Saleh is the most popular place to visit in Saudi Arabia. This impressive and well preserved cemetary is home to over 131 tombs. Late Aramaic script is written above many of the tomb doors. December through to Februray are the winter months in Saudi Arabia with pleasant conditons of 17 to 23 degrees. Snow and frost does sometimes occur in the southern highlands. Also found in Saudi Arabia are two of the most holiest places in Islam which are Makkah and Medina. Most of the terrain of Saudi Arabia is made up of desert and semi-arid regions. In other parts the land rises from sea level to a peninsula-long mountain range. Found in central region of the Arabian Peninsula is the plateau of Jejd which simply means 'upland' and is one of the main regions of modern Saudi Arabia. The highest point of Saudi Arabia rises to over 3,133 metres and is known as Jabal Sawda' while the lowest point is the Persian Gulf as sea level.
