Managua

General Information about Managua

Nicaragua's capital city of Managua is situated along the south western shore of Lake Managua and is home to over 1,680,100 people. Managua which has been the capital city since 1852 is filled with numerous fascinating monuments as well as a wide range of museums and art galleries.

Managua also is home to many lagoons, with the Tiscapa Lagoon Natural Reserve being the most popular tourist destination. While you are visiting Tiscapa Lagoon you will be able to stop at one of the many restaurants as you take in the views of the old down town district.

While you are visiting Managua be sure to visit the Plaza de la Revolucion which is also known as the Plaza of the Revolution. Here you find some of Managua's most notable and interesting architectural buildings such as the National Palace of Culture, the Ruben Dario National Theatre and the Old Cathedral.

Managua also features some beautiful beaches that should not be forgotten about with San Juan del Sur being the most popular beach. There are plenty of restaurants, bars and cafes to choose from at Managua.
