Saint Martin has a total area of 87 square kilometres and is shared by two countries of the Netherlands and France.
The French side of the island which is officially known as the Collectivity of Saint Martin and is the largest of the two sides with an area just over 53 square kilometres. The Dutch side of the island is much smaller with just over 21 square metres with over 1,200 people living in the main town of Philipsburg. Other well known regions of Saint Martin are Lower Prince's quarter, Cul de Sac, Cole Bay, Upper Prince's Quarter, Little Bay or Fort Ansterdam, Simpson Bay and the Lowlands which is the least populated town. Much of Saint Martin is mountainous with the highest point being known as Pic Paradis which rises to just over 414 metres.
