General Information about Morocco

Morocco is located in northern Africa between the Western Sahara and Algeria. Morocco is bordered by the North Atlantic Ocean on the east and the Mediterraen Sea on the north-west. Morocco is separated from Spain by the Strait of Gibraltar. Morocco has a population of 33,000,000 people, 98% of which are Muslim. The official languages spoken are Arabic and Tamazight, but French and Spanish are spoken also.

Morocco's capital city Rabat is situated on the North Atlantic Coast and has many European style cafes as well as Islam places of worship. Rabat is the fourth of the imperial cities and is a mix of modern biuldings and remnants of the 12th century when the citadel was used by the Sultan as a base to campaign against the Spanish.

Morocco's highest peak can be found in the south western regions in the Atlas Mountains and in North Africa. Jbel Toubkal rises as high as 4,165 metres and is an amazing sight to see. On the other hand the lowest peak is Sebkha Tah which is 55 metres below sea level. Morocco has many rivers to boast about with most of them flowing north westward either to the Atlantic or towards the Sahara. However the Moulouya travels north-eastwards into the Mediterranean for over 350 miles.
