General Information about Mexico City

Mexico City which is the capital of Mexico and can be found in the Valley of Mexico which is approximately 2,240 metres above sea level. Mexico City has been inhabited since 1325 and has one of the largest populations in the world with a population of approximately 18,131,000. Mexico City is often referred to as the City of Palaces and also boasts the world's largest amount of museums and art galleries.

It would be impossible to visit Mexico City and run out of things to do. One of the best places to start is the Historic Centre which is listed as a World Heritage Site. Here you will find the Metropolitan Cathedral which is a spectacular building which dates back to 1667. Not far from here you will be able to visit the ruins of the Great Pyramid which was the main temple of ancient Aztec.

There are many monuments and attractions that should definitely be visited such as the Angel of Independence and the Castle of Chapultepec which is home to the Mexican National Museum of History. If your a sporting fan then the Estadio Azteca should not be missed as this is the world's largest soccer stadium with seating for 129,300.

Shopping is endless with many shops to choose from such as the Ciudadela Crafts Markets. But some of the most popular shopping destinations are Polanco, Altavista, and Centro Historico. There are a wide range of restaurants to choose from with many serving authentic Mexican food although many do serve a variety of international cuisines.
