General Information about Georgetown

First settled in the 18th century Georgetown which is home to over 213,705 and is often known as the 'Garden City of the Caribbean'. Found off the north east Atlantic Ocean coast Georgetown architecture was mainly constructed in Dutch colonial and Victorian styles.

Georgetown features many interesting attractions as well as some beautiful gardens. Be sure to visit the National Library and the Walter Roth Museum of Anthropology which was built in 1974 but didn't open its doors to the public until 1982. Also the National Museum of Guyana is the perfect way to learn about Georgetown and was built in 1868.

Georgetown is famous for being home to the world's second tallest wooden church which rises to 43.5 metres. St George's Anglican Cathedral was built as far back as 1899 and is a designated National Monument.
