Dahab

General Information about Dahab

Formerly a Bedouin fishing village, the small town of Dahab is situated on the south east coast of the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt. The town is located about 85 kilometres north east of the nearby city Sharm el-Sheikh and 610 kilometres south east of Egypt's capital city Cairo. Dahab has two distinct parts, Assalah, the former Bedouin village situated in the north along the beach and Laguna or Dahab City, the modern part of the town which is located in the south.

With it's prime location on the coast of the Red Sea, Dahab is often regarded as one of the top spots for diving. As a resort town, it is also a great place to just laze around on the beaches and enjoy the scenery. Some other popular activities to partake in around Dahab are rock climbing, snorkelling, windsurfing and quad bike and jeep safaris. Many visitors also like to explore the Old Port of Dahab which features ruins that date back 1600 years.

There are numerous diving centres and popular diving spots in Dahab. One of the most infamous places here, and in the entire Red Sea Riveria is Blue Hole. Blue Hole is 107 metres deep and features an arch opening into the reef face at 58 metres. This is also considered to be one of the most dangerous diving spots, and is only recommended for those who are experienced divers and have gone through technical dive training.

Another popular pastime in Dahab is yoga. There are various type of yoga, including ashtanga, hatha and kundalini, which are all taught by professionals around the town.
