Ideally located along the Yellow Sea the city of Qingdao can be found within the province of Shandong. Qingdao which is also known locally as Tsingtao and boasts a population of approximately eight million residents.

Throughout history, Qingdao has been known by many other names such as Tsingtau, Qindao and Jiao'ao. Qingdao's many names are a result of being under the ruler ship by Japan and Germany between 1891 and 1922. Because of the city's past connection with Japan and Germany you will notice a interesting blend of architecture styles throughout the city.

The Zhanshan Temple is one of Qingdao's most popular attractions with it's impressive seven floors. This well visitied Buddhist temple dates back to 1934 and welcomes thousands of visitors each year. Also worth visiting is the Qingdao's beaches, which are numbered instead of being named. Beach No. One is of course the most popular and there are seven beaches in total. If your keen to purchase a souvenir to take home then the Qingdao markets will not disappoint with the most popular markets being located in Jimo Street.

Travelling to Qingdao is simple with regular flights landing at the Qingdao Liuting International Airport. It is also possible to travel to Qingdao from Beijing and Shanghai via train.
