There is also a small Christian minority. Canada's capital city Ottawa is situated in the Ottawa Valley and lies on the bank of the Ottawa River. Ottawa is home to over 2.7 million people, however Toronto is Canada's largest city. Other important Canadian cities are Vancouver, Montreal, Winnipeg and Quebec.
Montreal is home to the Cathédrale Marie-Reine-du-Monde (or Cathedral of Mary Queen of the World) which is one-quarter the size of St Peter's Basilica in Rome and was built between 1870 and 1894. Also here is Montreal's most famous landmark, the Basilique Nôtre Dame. This was built in 1829 and features the Gros Bourdon, the largest bell in North America, and the famous Casavant organ. Some of the well known mountains of the Appalachian Mountains is Mount Jacques-Cartier which can be found in Quebec and rises to over 1,268 metres and Mount Carleton found at New Brunswick at 817 metres. The highest point of Canada is Mount Logan which rises to over 5,959 metres and is the second highest peak in North America. In fact due to active tectonic uplifting Mount Logan continues to rise in elevation.
