General Information about Oranjestad

Aruba's capital city of Oranjestad can be found on the western end of Aruba has been inhabited since 1796. Home to over 26,360 people, Oranjestad which is known as Playa in the local language of Papiamento which is a dialect of Dutch.

There are a few museums, monuments and churches to visit while you are visiting Oranjestad with Fort Zoutman being one of the city's oldest which was built back in 1796. Other places to visit are the Numismatic Museum of Aruba, the Archaeological Museum of Aruba which is filled with historical facts about the island.

If its shopping your into then Oranjestad is the ideal place to visit with a variety of stores scattered all over the city. Shopping along the city's wharf is a real treat with many stalls selling fresh seafood as well as a large selection of souvenir's.

Getting there is easy with the Queen Beatrix International Airport being located jusst 2.5 kilometres from Oranjestad.
